Bergen

Gamlehaugen.

A cold day at Gamlehaugen in Paradis, Bergen ❄️🏰 Gamlehaugen is more than just a beautiful mansion, it’s the royal residence in Bergen. Originally a farm in the Middle Ages, it was bought in 1898 by Christian Michelsen, Norway’s first independent prime minister, who commissioned the current Scottish-baronial style building. In 1925, the property was donated to the Norwegian state, and since 1927 it has served as the royal family’s summer home. The surrounding grounds were turned into an English-style park by gardener Olav Moen, and parts of the mansion now house a museum dedicated to Michelsen’s legacy.
